The PRP/PRF Facial
Platelet-Rich plasma (PRP) is a substance that promotes healing when injected. Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special proteins, that help your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth. When injecting PRP into damaged tissues, the PRP will stimulate your body to grow new, healthy cells and promote healing, therefore reducing the prominence of scars, wrinkles, sun damage, and dark circles. Your skin will be tighter and more radiant.
What is plasma and what are platelets?
Plasma is the liquid part of whole blood. It is composed largely of water and proteins, and it circulates red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets through the body. Platelets, also called thrombocytes, are blood cells that cause blood clots and other necessary growth healing functions, and their activation plays a key role in the body's natural healing process.
What is PRP Facial treatment?
PRP facial treatment uses your own blood’s platelets and plasma to be injected on your face. The platelet-rich plasma can either be injected into deeper wrinkles or micro-needled into the skin.
Once the plasma is in, it begins to do its work of rejuvenating your face, tightening wrinkled areas and smoothing and improving the texture of your skin. It’s able to do that because PRP stimulates collagen growth.
The more often you have a PRP facial, the longer the results of each treatment will last, which is about 6 to 12 months.
The advantages of PRP Facial treatment
1. It uses your body’s natural ability to heal itself.
2. There’s no chance for an allergic reaction because the plasma comes from your own body.
3. Pain is minimal and the procedure is short (not more than 60min!)
Benefits of PRP Facial
PRP Facial treatment not only helps the body create new elastin and collagen, but it can decrease the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, lines, stretch marks and other types of scars. It also improves skin’s texture and tone.
PRP Facial treatment process
PRP Facial treatment is a three-step process. It is recommended to repeat PRP treatment three times, 4-5 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 4–6 months.
-
Step 1
The medical professional draws your blood and puts the vials containing the blood into a centrifuge - a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities.
-
Step 2
After about 15 minutes in the centrifuge, your blood will have separated into in three layers:
1. platelet-poor plasma
2. platelet-rich plasma
3. red blood cells -
Step 3
The platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe and then injected into areas on your face and scalp.
5 Reasons to try the Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Facial
PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is a version of the much-praised PRP (platelet-rich plasma), also known as the vampire facial.
The vampire facial is a natural treatment that uses the patient’s own blood cells to improve skin texture and increase hyaluronic acid and collagen production. Moreover, PRF can also be used for hair restoration and hair growth, as well as treatment for knee repairs, wound management, and skin regrowth following severe burns.
Our blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, platelets, and many other components.
A platelet is a tiny cell fragment rich in growth factors that aid the wound healing process, as well as stimulate stem cells to produce collagen and elastin in the skin.
The procedure allows professionals to separate the components using a centrifuge that spins the tubes of blood. Thus, the platelet-rich plasma can be easily separated from the rest of the blood cells and components and injected into our face for facial rejuvenation or used to accelerate healing, tissue regeneration, and stimulate the production of collagen. Unlike fillers and Botox injections, the PRP procedure is one hundred percent natural.
-
1 - Eliminates wrinkles and facial folds
The fibrin matrix is what holds the platelets together and facilitates their release over 7 to 10 days in the area where the PRF is injected. A slower release equals longer-lasting results that will occur over the following weeks. The first signs that your PRF treatment is doing its magic will be visible in 48 hours.
-
2 - Treats under-eye loose skin and dark circles
The skin underneath your eye is the thinnest skin on your body so it’s only natural for it to be more exposed to fine lines and wrinkles. PRF can treat the effects of under-eye skin aging by filling in hollows and reducing the visibility of our wrinkles. Until now, dermal fillers were the go-to aesthetic treatment for this sensitive area of our face. While Restylane, Juvederm, and other types of fillers will instantly fill in the hollows under the eye and rejuvenate the look of our skin, used excessively, they may lead to a puffy or bluish aspect of the skin. Moreover, fillers rarely can combat dark circles.
-
3 - Improves skin texture and treats acne scars
PRF can add moisture to your skin and boost blood flow to fight the appearance of a tired complexion and refine skin tone. The platelet-rich fibrin treatment is a great ally against sun damage and the effects of smoking, encouraging the skin to produce more elastin for a younger appearance and smoother skin.
-
4 - The results last for up to one year
One of the advantages of the PRF procedure is that it allows patients to enjoy its results for up to one year. This is truly fantastic considering that the procedure only lasts about 45 minutes and for a complete treatment you need only 2 to 5 appointments. Once the treatment is completed, you will be able to admire an improved skin quality and texture, more volume, and fewer dark circles for many months to come. However, it is useful to remember that every patient is different and the procedure is personalized accordingly. After all, it uses your own blood and body’s growth factors to stimulate skin rejuvenation and regeneration. Consequently, the results vary from individual to individual and you may return for your next procedure sooner or later than expected.

5 - There are minimal risks of side effects
